On July 5th, the CRTC posted new quality standards for English-language closed captioning.

The mandatory standards below will come into effect on September 1, 2012, so keep your programming compliant and ensure that the hearing impaired don't miss out on your story!

The .mp4 file type produced by the GoPro HD cameras is not supported by Apple’s Final Cut software. The file type is a compressed output format and not an ideal editing format. To convert your files to a more editing friendly format you must use 3rd party software such as MPEG Streamclip (free download).

On January 12th, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) gave its official nod to the Timed Text standard for captioning online video content developed by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE). Using it assures professionals that their content complies with the commission’s new rules for the captioning of online content, as mandated in the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA) of 2010 (signed into law by the President in February 2011).
